Yoga for Hips and Knees

with Dr. Loren Fishman, M.D., B PHil. (Oxon.)
Price: $145.00–$200.00 – Sliding Scale Tuition

In this online workshop, learn the anatomy of the hips and knees and the most common difficulties that befall them during our Yoga practices. Discover how to teach healing poses for conditions that affect each joint and the elements of proper alignment and ‘just right’ stretching to avoid injuring them in the first place.

People often look to Yoga as a means to alleviate pain. But knee and hip joint pain present a double challenge since they are frequently a source of movement limitations in Yoga practice. Therefore, it is difficult to practice the Yoga that can help! While Yoga can be helpful in alleviating hip and knee discomfort, it is crucial that you know how to address these parts of the body.

Since students come to the mat with different levels of pain and limitation, we will show you graded approaches with workarounds for any Yoga practice.

This online workshop, you will learn:

  • Which poses help with hip and knee problems
  • Poses that should be avoided for certain knee or hip conditions
  • How to spot practices and pitfalls that endanger these joints in your students and clients

Some of the conditions we will cover for the hips: Femoracetabular-impingement (FAI), Labral Tear, and Hip Replacement.

Conditions we will focus on for the knees: meniscal, ligament and cruciate tears, and knee replacement.

Live sessions with Dr. Fishman and assistant Liz Larson on Friday at 7–9 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 9:30–11:30 am and 2:30–4:30 pm EDT.

In addition, you will have access to the Ashram’s Live Hatha Yoga classes at 5 pm, recorded Ashram meditations, and inspiring talk with Sri Swami Satchidananda. You will also have access to an online social community to connect and communicate with other participants about this course.

The main program sessions are live and all sessions are in EDT. The live sessions will be recorded and posted to the Online Programs access page if you are unable to join us live for that session. Recordings* are usually posted within one day and are available to program participants and presenter(s) only.
*You're welcome to turn off your camera if you don't wish your image to be recorded.

You will have access to the video recordings for 6 months after the program ends, until April 25, 2021.
